Dutch coins

The designs for the last series of Guilders and the Dutch side of the Euro were both selected by means of an open competition.

The Guilder
The portrait shows Beatrix in her official capacity as Queen of the Netherlands: proud and clear.
The reverse side expresses the historical development of the Dutch currency with its respect for tradition. The graphical representation of the decimal system reflects the orderliness of the Dutch polder landscape and also shows the structure of the currency system.

Dutch side of the Euro
The Dutch side of the Euro features a portrait of Queen Beatrix that is now small and subtle, in a European context: in the middle of a starry sky and the twelve European stars, as in a universe.
